The Mermaid represents how somehow the classical behavior comes out of the quantum world. The way that occurs in quantum theory is by another process, which is called the collapse of the wave function or the reduction of this quantum state. If it's quantum, you get these super positions of cats going different doors and so on. But if it's the top world, you get going only one door, not the other. And that's what you see up here. How does that work? Well, that's never explained. I don't believe any of them but something must happen.
