Is Madonna Still the Author of Madonna?
In light of Sharon Stone's brilliant appropriation of Madonna's persona in Basic Instinct, is Madonna still the author of Madonna? My layman's opinion on this issue is that Stone's Madonna is so much wittier and sexier than its model, that it obliterates the original. It turns the real Madonna into an immaterial girl. Even though I lived through this time period and have vivid memories of it, I don't think I fully understood the threat Madonna posed to conventional sexual moories until I read these Body of Evidence reviews.
