The Different Worldviews of the Spanish Civil War

The coup and the resulting revolution in Civil War brought a real destruction of many gender barriers that were present in Spanish society. One of the major differences between the Nationalists and some revolutionary Republicans was their beliefs around the world of women within society. Women would join militias with the home front to play a different role, which caused consternation among unions. The nationalists were highly traditional in their views thanks to Catholic influences on Spain's culture; it was hard for men to rationalize their ideas of revolutionary equality.
