Female mammals are able to keep their babies with them at all times, so they know that temperature's gonna be right. Birds on the other hand are like, you know what? I still gotta get this temperature right, but I still need to be able to move a little bit here and there to go get some more food. There's still some trade-offs and loss of movement and dexterity, but compared to other species, female mammals can do quite a lot done even though they're pregnant up until the last day.
