To his horror, he found that even though they traveled 1,100 miles in three weeks, they were actually farther from South America than when they'd started. Tahiti's still on the table. Do you imagine how many, like begging people to go to Tahiti? It could have been there in under a week. But because of their prejudice, stubbornness, and stupidity, they stuck to the original plan. As a result, they were about to endure another two months at sea. The whole ocean just keep on trying.
