The term accent reduction is often used as a kind of marketing tool. It's sold to non-native English speakers who want to have an accent that sounds more British or more American. But I have seen that it's also sold to people with strong, and I say that with inverted commas, strong regional accents. So by assuming the standard, you assign a sort of negative value to your accent.
