The Importance of District Judges

The minimum commitment is 13 full days, a year or 26 half days. In addition to lay magistrates, there are 118 district judges in England and Wales. Because they don't need legal advisors, district judges can decide cases more quickly than lay magistrates. The Ministry of Justice is looking for 2000 new magistrates.
