The Effects of Music on Emotions

Stefan Kosh is a professor of music psychology at the University of Bergen in Norway. He argues that our emotional understanding of music, in particular the Western kind, is hardwired because it contains similar auditory patterns to the human voice. Laughter, crying, moaning, groaning are effective vocalizations that are biologically coded and therefore also understood independent of cultural background.
