Is There a Difference Between Disappointment and Expectation?
Disappointment can be particularly important from the standpoint of power relations, as something for tho s higher in a hierarchy. I worry about politicians who are really willing to write off whole swaths of voters,. so to speak, as cynically not worth their time. Even the most morally noble people are sometimes disappointing and that's different than saying they're stained and therefore can't be admirable. One thing i found distressing was my students couldn't come up with ten people they moral admire. And i wonder if that is related to our not being able to enfold disappointment into a sense of even what a moral exemplar can be.
