Most of the metaphors we use when we talk about personal productve are actually borrowed from the language of the industrial revolution and the factory. It's absolutely devastating. The word productive, before the industrial volution, would have been used to talk about agriculture,. things like a yield of crops or fruit trees that were particularly fruitfulwould be called productive.
