The Importance of Enforcing the Laws
I think everyone would agree that killing someone for shoplifting is disproportionate. But you don't know in that situation if a person is armed or what their intentions are. We're not addressing the root cause of some of this, which is mental health, homelessness and poverty. And we're also not enforcing our laws. This is a terrible combination. She could have made the opposite conclusion and that would have been perfectly lawful, too. I mean, she got elected specifically. She clearly might have gone in a different direction. It's up to us as a society to figure out how to deal with this problem."
