The city ran an employment agency on lafayette, but by 19 31, five thousand people a day were lining up outside its doors. On one day in january of 19 31, 85 housand people in new york city lined up for meals at 81 locations around the city,. But the problem was just too big. By 19 32, there were over a million men, women and children who were relying upon some kind of ad for food or shelter or clothing. Fortunately, i think many people would agree, 19 32 was an election year, and the future of the united states returned toNew York state.
