Are Distributed Codes a Way to Map the Social World?

iReporter: What do we know about how the social world gets mapped? Do we use a map to just kind of help us imagine or conceptualize or remember how we're socially connected to, you know, however many, dozens or hundreds of people we interact with on a dateday basis? iReporter: There's some emerging evidence that the parts of the brain that represent locations in space using a distributed code are very flexible. And so they can flit back and forth between representing space in a literal spatial sense and representing other sorts of things that have a dimension but require flexible thinking.
