What Are the Cleanest Parallels Between Drugs and Prohibition?

I think the clearest parallel is the opioid crisis in the United States. The probably clearest present-day example isn't necessarily, you know, the war on drugs. It was just kind of a recognition that there were limits to be put on this highly addictive substance. And recognizing that there might be a role for some degree of regulation of that market.
