I think because of Khan's strength and popularity in London, they haven't bothered to properly make a case for the scheme. It might be the right policy, but they have failed to make the case for it. What matters in their response is almost not the position, it's unity. The charge going into the next general election would be that Starmer is in constant, unreliable, untrustworthy and his party is not behind him. That is the aim.
