Mental Health Services - Are You Going to Have to Go Out of Your Area?
Government has got rid of the idea that you have a local hospital or community services. Instead, what you've got is lots and lots of largely increasingly private providers competing for contracts. People with severe mental health problems can no longer get their mental health services locally. If they need a bed, they may have to travel four or 500 miles to get a bed. We're already seeing this, for example, with electro surgery for hips and hearts and knees. It's more likely to be through the private sector. But it's the providers that have the power, that are deciding where those services and how those services are provided.
