"It's a completely different part of my brain and part of my like self that gets fulfilled, having other artists cut songs of mine," she says. "I get to go talk about other people with them." When you're writing for another artist, do you approach the session differently than if you're in there as essentially the artists are writing for? Do you always have an artist either in the room that you're co-writing with or who you're expecting will cut the song? Is there a process where you just decide to write a song with somebody and then you hand it off to your publisher and they just kind of shop it around hoping to get it cut.
