Fadimere has suggested that he needs to step in and protect parts of the ukraine. His strategic position is much more about dealing with his long stated security interests. The existence of a still fairly vibrant civil ty, a free press, right on his borders, it's not the kind of thing he wants to see catching on in this part of the world. He doesn't want democracy infecting russia.
