The Importance of Being a Christian
If you say, I believe in God because that's the only way I'll be happy, that makes you a kind of Christian stoic. That's sort of an amalgamation of pagan stoicism and Christianity. It's not real Christianity. So you should not go to God in order to make you happy. You will almost always move toward God initially because of some lack in your own life. Usually something is wrong or something is missing. But what happens is, if you get a grasp on the truth of things, it starts to work away a lot of the selfish reasons for your relationship to God. And that kind of transformation is what has to happen and does happen for Christians.
