The New Zealand Centre for Human Animal Studies

A lot of people will not leave abusive situations because they know their animal will be harmed or alternatively, they just love that animal and they don't want to leave. And it's also the case that if we had more refugees that offered that kind of co-care, then more people would leave. The NZCHAS is a teaching research hub where we focus on critical animal studies which is really the study of power relations and intersectional relations between human forms of oppression and animal forms of oppressed and exploitation. So it's not just exploring and explaining, there's actually activism behind it.
