The Overthrowing of a World Order in the Old Testament
Chapter 14 is a challenging chapter to interpret, with many mysterious and apocalyptic images of the overthrowing of a world order. As we look at these images more closely in the light of wider biblical symbolism, much of this chapter will come into focus. Once again, nations are gathered against Jerusalem, but this time the city is taken, plundered, and the women violated. The imagery and language of that chapter is prominent in other accounts of Jerusalem's overthrow,. In Jesus' Olivet Discourse and in the book of Revelation, where Jerusalem itself is spoken of as Babal on the Great.
