The Mismatched Politics of the State

The Muslim world sits uncomfortably within the political technology of the state. We're living with this political technology that was forced upon us and were essentially as Halak says, we'reLiving somebody else's history. The idea of a state does not come from Muslim lands; it started in Europe. And so when things are applied sort of haphazardly in halfway, we get a mutant, right?We get some sort of new thing that is has the violence of the state and a certain sort of moral baggage.
