Churchill read Mein Kampf and believed it represented Hitler's plane intentions. Most politicians in Westminster chose to ignore the book and didn't bother reading it. The ostrich effect is when negative feedback undermines our motivation to learn. In a study, people were less likely to remember an incorrect answer if they had been told their guess was wrong. When they were told their guesses were right, they were far more likely to remember.
