My parents were constructively negligent. We were genuinely in a box. It wasn't that we were brilliant, it's that we were interested in an interesting kind of rebellion. So I took a lot of courses in this Canadian history and English history mostly. What I really wanted to do was to study statistics. That would have been the single most useful thing I could have done in college. But it starts with something weirdly paradoxical about college: The college is structured actually to force you to make that mistake.
