The History of Harlem

There was an african american community in harlem by the 18 nineties, and it was mainly on the east side. A burial ground for free and enslaved black people that back to the colonial era has been discovered under a bus depot. As of press time, there is a memorial planned to mark this spot, but it is not completed. But this speaks to the silence of centuries of history erased by the city, and of the history of people of color in particular.
