Is There a New Wife in the Movie?

It makes me wonder why the new wife is included in the story. We don't see like their friendship in any meaningful way beforehand. Like we see her, like Florence trying to help her early in the movie and then being like pressured to conform rather than. Or she's already been shunned at this point. It would maybe make a little more impact if the person who's like cracking up who we're going to get to.
