Is Meditation Helpful for Depression?
Long term meditators have a decreased size to their amidula and decreased activation of the amigdala. meditation is incredibly powerful to help us down regulate our amigdula. It also then works on the physiological side. As you're breathing slowly, you're now sending signals back up to your brain saying, no, we're breathing slowly,. therefore everything must be ok. Youre lowering your heart rate, which is another signal through your vaguest nerve that everything is OK. All o these mechanisms sound like they would also be beneficial for anxiety and depression. Are there additional mechanisms that make meditation particularly helpful for mental health? Absolutely.
