Algae Blooms and Parkinson's Disease
The algae bloom is caused by nitrogen runoff from fish farms. The toxin BMAA feeds off cyanobacteria feeding off the algae, which has been linked to ALS and Parkinson's syndrome. "We're seeing clustering of ALS cases around lakes where people are eating lake fish," he says.
