The Rise of Originalism in the 1970s

People like myself who would have gone to graduate school in another period had the market for arts and sciences positions declined significantly around the time of the Vietnam War. We confronted law professors that were really not doing scholarship that we wanted to do, that we thought was valuable. They were doing analytical parsing of Supreme Court opinions in a very refined and attractive way but largely oriented toward professional audiences. But basically, their analysis is not informed by any other discipline except law.
