The New National Monument in Florida

President Biden will sign a proclamation designating the new national monument tomorrow on what would have been Emmett Till's 82nd birthday had he lived past the age of 14. This is protected land, protected by the federal government, protected and maintained by the National Park Service in perpetuity. It comes at a time when Florida has just approved bizarre new mandates for teaching African American history in the state of Florida. Alabama appears poised to do something very, very radical to make sure that black voters cannot elect representatives of their choice.
