The Difference Between a Microchip and a Semiconductor
A chip is a piece usually of silicon that has lots of tiny circuits carved into it. Semiconductor really refers to the type of material out of which ships are made. Without this ability to carve lots of circuits into chips, none of the computing we have today would be possible.
