The first bio orthogonal chemistries that we did in my lab were around 1997, then we published a big paper in the year 2000. I have to say, knowing what I do of chemistry, it does seem totally amazing. A biological cell is so crammed with stuff going on. Did you really imagine when you started that it would work out so well? Well, no, of course.
