The Importance of Inflation in the Economy
When people hear the Prime Minister say he wants to have inflation, they think that that means prices are going to be falling. They could be in for an nasty shock when they find out they're actually finding even harder to make ends meet. The idea that by having inflation halve, everyone will suddenly feel better is ludicrous. And we've just been talking about the bank of England's patchy forecasting records. So even though it's much better than we fit it, it could be last November when it was looking absolutely dire, it still isn't going to be a very pretty picture.
