The Singularity of Utilitarian Logic

The singularity is thought of as like this kind of innocent, cool idea. But it's really horrid utilitarian logic that justifies increasingly nasty apathetic or ranging from apathetic to exterministic value judgments. Why do the titans of Silicon Valley believe such weird, insane, and dangerous things?
