Loneliness and Individualism
How much of our particular american disconnect is a by product of some kind of national mythology or national identity? That's a good question. You know, there's this american narrative that did start in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, which is, you know, don't tread on me, right? Kind of rugged individualism. And so that issue of individualism, of feeling, and that's what loneliness is. Because when youere yo perceive, ay, i have connections. I feel other people care about me, then you have what's called solitude, which is a positive. Loneliness, meanwhile, is correlated with every negative health metric you can imagine.
