The Importance of Indigeneity
The idea or the definition of what it is to be indigenous has become heavily politicized. It's a way of knowing being doing and relating that grows out of the soils, waters and ecologies upon which you are standing. And we're still trying to work our way through these pine slash floods in Ika Marwe. We were led to believe that if you planted pine beside your rivers that it would keep the rivers stable now why do we need to keep them stable? That was colonial scientists who came here with a colonial agenda.
