Twenty Thousand Hertz

CHAPTER

What Is a Wave?

As sound moves through air, molecules are moving at the speed of sound. They bump into each other and produce these changes in momentum. This is manifested also as a change in pressure, which your ear consent to. We measure sound waves by their frequency - how many times they repeat every second. The scale we use to measure frequency is called hertz, named after the german scientist, heinrich hertz.
