A, Is the Telapa a Bioluminescent Lightning?

Some islanders explain that as this back up method of navigation, they could use telapa to steer on dark, rainy nights. And lewis documented references to it in the navigational lore from two polynesian areas and one micronesian area. But there were plenty of other navigators who didn't seem to know anything about telapa,. Like they'd never even heard of this concept. It's still some question about what causes it, and we'll discuss that more in a minute.
