In addition to his hatred of democracy, Plato also does not like the idea that you should live your life just doing whatever it is that you want. A society in which everyone does what they desire to do would be deeply, deeply repellent to Plato. The people who he really thinks out to run things are the people who are interested in pursuing the good and the true for their own sake.
