Ep. 65 - The Satipatthāna Sutta: Mindfulness of Dhamma – Hindrances
Insight Hour with Joseph Goldstein
Whenever a Thought of Sensual Desire Arose in Me, I Adopted It, Removed It, Did Away With It
The Buddha gives us the wise reflection. This is from the same suta when he was talking about his practice before his enlightenment. So as I abided thus diligent, ardent and resolute, a thought of sensual desire arose in me. When I consider this leads to others affliction, it's subsided. We don't need to be victimized by our minds. We need to recognize when it's present. If the power of mindfulness is strong enough in that very moment, it dissolves to the power of that mindfulness. It's like taking care of our physical health, knowing what causes certain diseases. Can we take care of our mental health in similar way?
