The Consensual Sex
The central question of this chapter is kind of an ugly one. It's how consensual was the sex, getting it out of the way? How much would she have wanted it if she hadn't fallen asleep? All of those things are really the central mystery here. And I think that's also evident at the end of the chapter two, the kind of resignation that she has after what happens happens. A lot of people who read this book for the first time read this as a funny rom-com scene. But then by the end they realize just how coercive Metzger had been.
