The History of Public Libraries

The first great public libraries were set up in kingdoms, established by alexander's successors. One inscription believed to have belonged to the library which trajan built at athens specifies its opening hours and proclaims no book shall be taken out. And other book collections of all sizes were very often attached to or housed within temples. Some libraries could be housed in public bars. i find this confusing, becaus youdhave thought the steem would have dam age them.
