The Importance of Discipline in Military Leadership

It says there's no skill that the armed forces need so badly as the capacity to lead men. And they are aware of this need because it is so inadequately supplied. Leaders have to do much more than issue orders. They must teach. They must inspire confidence in themselves and motivate action, which will be carried out in spite of confusion and fear. Only by long careful training can men learn to respond immediately and correctly to oral and written orders and oral commands. It still talks a lot about obedience and following commands.
