This is a spiritual sequel to episode one on the merocratic mythology surrounding charter schools. The notion that education is an anti poverty tool really originated among circles of well meaning, but ultimately toothless reformist intellectuals of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This ethos would continue as a reaction to the severe iniquities of the gilded age during the waning years of the nineteenth century. And do we actually need heroes to rely on, as we're told consistently through our media and our pop culture, to be our saviour, rather than taking care of each other?
