The Power of Focusing on the Micro Over the Macro
In moments when your purpose gets so hard that it gets hard to keep going, a really powerful technique is to focus on the micro over the macro. When you do that, you force yourself to simply do the next thing and to ignore the more terrifying questions about the bigger picture. Instead of worrying if you have enough to make it as an author, you finish that paragraph. Once you finish, you just sand that piece of wood. That doesn't mean those questions are irrelevant. It just means that if your goal is to learn how to keep going then sometimes the best thing is just to keep going.
