The Origin Story of Coffee

The coffee plant was first exported from Ethiopia to Yemen on the other side of the Red Sea. Somali merchants who first transported it to Yemen, and it caught on there like you wouldn't believe. Particularly within Islamic order who practiced what is known as Sufism. Drinking coffee was incorporated into Sufist rituals and help keep people awake while they're staying up all night praying or whatever. The conservative old religious Fuddy Duddies didn't like it, and it was quickly banned in many places.
