Sainsans was an extremely eclectic composer who was interested in music from all over, and that included especially french music. His conservatism had a completely independent streak as he consolidated those old germanic classical forms and made them sound very much french and very much his own. Much of this music is obviously european, and it can't be said to be authenic in any way that we would understand that word to be in 20 22. But works like his work for piano and orchestra africa, and even the legendary bacchanal were based at least partly on authentic sources.
