Many, many people experience barriers around access to care and financial barriers. There's also a sense in psychology that science is objective - but humans are not. Many of the treatment sites in their local area may also be places they train as practical students. And i think often in psychology, there's this perception that if you study something related to your own experiences, that you're somehow going to be biased or not objective more than other people.
