The Strangeness of Perspective in Children's Books

Mary Poppins is a really nice example of a work of fiction that gives you a sense of the sort of strangeness of perspective that you would have and that you do have when you're a child. Unfortunately the movies have sort of messed up Mary Poppins for the popular imagination so you just think of it as being like Julie Andrews but in the books what happens is that there's this very sort of banal ordinary existence of these children growing up in Kensington, London.
