The Ombudsman's Report - What's Going On?
Law enforcement agencies can access data to use in prosecutions. A damning review by the commonwealth ombedsman found 19 of those 20 agencies had not used their powers properly over a 12-month period. It is possible for them to do that without the victim being notified, and that under certain circumstances. But there are some definitional questions about what level of crime should be covered by this. And so there's some gray areas in there as well.
